Scrapbooking 101-Kindness Project

I am always looking for something to do to help others.  Since we live in a rural area, and with the virus still around, there is very little that I can do.  Therefore, I was excited when I found a project that I could do from home, cost very little and allowed me to create.

Since I have two years-worth of greeting cards made, I had stopped making cards for now.  I have my annual Christmas cards to make but that can wait until October or November.  Then, I came across a program through scrapbook.com.  This site is hosting a project titled “Cards for Kindness.”  I decided to check into this project.

“Cards for Kindness” is an initiative whereby card makers send handmade cards to Scrapbook.com.  In turn, the website sends these cards to cancer foundations, hospitals, shelters, retirement homes, children’s homes and other organizations in need.

Once the cards have been sent to these places, they are used by nurses, doctors, staff members, counselors, volunteers and even parents to give to others.   The giver adds a handwritten message of encouragement and love before giving them to patients, children and other people in need.

I remembered when our oldest son was in the hospital for a month from June 3rd-July 1st.  We could not go and visit him but I was able to send him two handmade cards that I made.  They made his day.  Therefore, I was all in on this Cards for Kindness initiative.  I got right to work making cards.

Today I sent out sixty cards.  There were 10 adult birthday cards, 10 children’s birthday cards, 5 mother’s day cards and 5 father’s day cards, 5 thank you cards, 5 Adult get well cards and 10 children’s get-well cards, 5 thinking of you cards and 5 just a note/happy day cards.

All the specifics for the cards are on the scrapbook.com website.  The recommended Card Size is: – A2 cards with envelopes (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″); this was easy to do as almost all of my cards I make are this size.  You also have to send the cards with coordinating envelopes of the same size.  There is also a minimum number of cards that you can send: at least 10 cards per package shipped to Scrapbook.com.  On the website, you can find all the information regarding this wonderful initiative.

They currently need the following types of cards:

– Thinking of You     – Inspirational / Motivational
– Get Well Soon / Well Wishes     – Thank You
– Sympathy               – Happy Hello
– Christmas               – Happy Birthday
– Mother’s Day          – Father’s Day
– General cards / no specific sentiment

I had so much fun making these cards.  Sometimes I used a card pattern from my pattern book.  However, most of the time I just found papers that I thought looked good together and made the design up as I went.  The children’s cards were a lot of fun as I usually do not make many children’s cards anymore.  All of our grandchildren are either teenagers or adults.  I just kept the design simple and made the birthday cards all the same and the get-well cards just two different patterns.

So, if you are a creator of handmade cards or you know someone who enjoys making handmade cards, tell them about the “Cards for Kindness” initiative.  All you have to do is go to, scrapbook.com/kindness and you will find all of the necessary information.

As always, “Don’t Save Today for Tomorrow.”
